In my job, the client has invited me for an onsite workshop which will be funded by the company i work for. However years back when i joined, the employment contract i signed stipulates incase employee is sent abroad for official work then upon return to HQ said employee should continue working for 1 year. I didn't like signing it but was told only senior management are sent onsite and it's just formality. I never thought i'd stay here this long or be at a position to be called for onsite as i'm not senior management.
On one hand i don't want to decline the client's offer with whom i have a good rapport with which i'd like to maintain even if i part ways while on the other hand don't want to be held up 1 whole year. Although i'd like to make this trip as it benefits the project and myself too.
But can't let the management or HR know about my plans to switch job or avoid the 1 year bond as they would quickly cancel the trip. To make matters worse if the client, who has a big say in how the project is run, comes to know about this bond which is stopping me, might take it upon himself to sponsor the trip on his company's expense which would cause severe unpleasantness with my management, a mess i don't want to deal with.
My company who'll have to bare the expense of my trip might see it as unnecessary spending on someone who's about to quit, while truth is they are only spending it for the project's benefit.
Is there any way to legally break bonds like this? What are my options others than declining to take the trip?

I have been reading on being a SETA (Systems Engineering and Technical Assistance) contractor (for DHS, DOD) and I have read about what the position generally entails. Seems interesting. My background is STEM and it’s always been a dream job of mine. However, not exactly sure how it’s different from a Non SETA contracting job. I am currently a Fed contractor, which I enjoy (not wanting to be a fed right now), but looking to transition into somewhere where I can use my STEM background for the government. Hi there. I am in a tricky situation with the landlord/realtor and I'm trying to figure out what the gist here is.
Please note, our property manager takes an extremely long time to re, gets our names wrong, sends contradictory emails about plans and times - so he's absolutely not on the ball, but it's imperative we are clear about this.
I live in a set of 18 units. We live at Unit 15. After work I arrived home to find this note on our door from (whom I have not met before/do not know which house they are from - although there are two first names, Unit X).. that our hot water system was leaking profusely and they had turned off the tap and left a note for us. I then went out to see the hot water system, tried turning it on and saw it was damaged - severely - like the top had exploded. It seemed to turn on OK but was leaking continuously. At this point, we had no reason to believe this was not our hot water system. There is no images of it nor description in the condition report, so we fully believed this was our system. We emailed the realtor and asked if a plumber could be sent.
He got in touch, and the plumber's reception called me and I sent them photos. They thought it looked pretty bad, and sent out the plumber but after checking he realised it was not our hot water system but the neighbours (Unit 14). For some reason with how the block is laid out we have our neighbours. He informed the neighbours there hot water was out. A week later our prop manager emailed us after the plumber had given the bill, about the neighbours (Unit 14) who's boiler had been blown. He was fairly irate about them and totally missunderstood the story. I tried to explain it again and gave him the number of Unit 14 (which I had previously from months ago).
Radiosilence ensued for a month, until my neighbour (Unit 14) knocked on our door. Apparantly our (unit 15) property manager had been going nuts. He kept calling them, the number id given having been from an old person at Unit 14, and seemingly not believing her that she had moved out, even when she gave him new contact details. I believe they reported him to VCAT. I helped Unit 14 draft an email to their own landlord and property manager explaining the situation in detail, and hoped the two property managers would figure it out.
Radiosilence again ensued for a month until just now my property manager emailed me, after himself having spoke to the property manager of unit 14. He tells me and repeats the situation back to me as if he has had some revelation about what actually happened and says that UNIT 16 must pay the invoice, as they were the ones who turned off the tap.
Firstly, I do not know which Unit left the note, and I have no idea where he or the other manager got Unit 16 from. Secondly, I believe it should be the realestate company for Unit 14 that should pay. They had to replace their boiler, which would require an onsite inspection. In this instance, they're just getting the onsite inspection for free. They obviously still had to pay for the plumber themselves for the boiler later. As usual, property managers are trying to squeeze out of any money if possible.
So the question is - who is due to pay the money here? I cannot in good conscience door-knock to find a neighbour who did it and make them pay an invoice. Even if this is somehow the legal obligation, this is frankly heinous for me to hand a bill to a kind neighbour and I would not do this.
Can anyone help with the situation? See how I can figure out?

I don't have any other way to contact her sadly and I don't know when and where I'll see her but she should be at this thing and I felt like she was interested in me so I'd really like to try to ask her out.
Also if I don't get a chance to ask her inside and we are in the parking lot and it is raining would it be weird to ask her then while we are both getting wet? I may not have another shot.
